SERVICE Your Business

The origin of Select Product Sourcing can be traced back to 1974, when Theo and Joan Britz opened a direct selling business called Bonne Femme, which they later re-named Table Charm. They sold exclusive glassware by the party plan system, ie like Tupperware in the USA, one of the pioneers of direct selling.

They were the first in RSA to introduce tempered (toughened) household glassware from Saint Gobain in France. The business flourished, and went national, and at that time they were arguably considered the largest importer of household glassware into the RSA. Eventually they merged Table Charm with another group, going public in 1987.

In May 1994, two members of the Britz family left and founded the new family business which became known as Select product Sourcing. Despite links with direct selling of glassware which exists to this day, they decided to continue with their glassware expertise, but changed direction in the way of marketing. It was decided to focus Select Product Sourcing as manufacturers' representatives of foreign based glassware factories, and sell in full container loads to various direct importers in the RSA. This the company has continued to do successfully for the past 20 years.

The first principal they represented exclusively was Royal Leerdam from the Netherlands, the number two producer of stemware in Europe by volume. Working closely with Leerdam, they soon became the leading supplier of stemware to the RSA market in the 1990s. Few factories in the world are capable of producing such fine stemware as Royal Leerdam by machine.

Towards the end of 1994, they secured sole representation for PT the First National Glassware factory from Indonesia. Working closely to this day with FNG, this factory has become a formidable force in the RSA, and commands a major share in the RSA household glassware market.

In 1995, they secured sole representation for Krosno Glassworks in Poland. They have been producing Hand-Made glassware since 1923, and also began producing machine-glass decades later. Their hand-made glassware production is probably the highest quality in the world, with incredible designers and is world famous. Their machine-made glassware is of an equally high standard in quality, with startling clarity and sheer rims.

The companys next milestone occurred in 1997, when they secured exclusive representation in the RSA for Vitrocrisa, Mexico. This factory produces and stocks a huge assortment of glassware, both machine and hand -made at very competitive prices. They produce, but are not limited to glass tumblers, pitchers, beverage sets, barware, serveware, dinnerware, ornamental, d├ęcor and glass ovenware & bakeware under their Pyr-O-Rey label.

In 2003, with their business expanding rapidly, Select Product Sourcing moved from Pinetown to their new premisis in Westville, Durban where we are today, with 200m2 offices and showrooms.

The next factory to be added to the Select Product Sourcing stable of glass factories was San Miguel, Spain in 2003. This factory produces 100% recycled Glass in their production, and have over 25 000 items they can manufacture. Their products are both artistic and functional, their many decorative techniques on glass are some of the most advanced in the world.

Shortly thereafter SPS took on representation of Zawierce, Poland in our market. This factory produces very high quality genuine 24% lead crystal- both machine made and hand-made.

In 2008, Select Product Sourcing signed sole representation with Libbey Group USA for Retail, wholesale and B2B in the RSA. Prior to this, Libbey had purchased both Royal Leerdam and Vitrocrisa. Additionally they purchased Crisal glass factory in Portugal and set up a brand new glass factory in China which began production in 2008.

Today Libbey is the second largest producer of household glassware in the world. They now wholly own 5 plants- one each in the USA, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal & China. Libbey USA factoryhas been in continuous operation since 1888 with roots that date back to 1818!!

The most recent addition to the business was the launch of Select Product Sourcings new company, TableKraft. Here they import certain niche lines, warehouse and distribute them throughout RSA. Care is taken not to import lines which would clash with our existing clientele of direct importers.
